Weekly Links: Spring has Sprung?

Hello friends & happy Friday!
I played around with my weekly links image today and tried to liven it up a bit to get myself into the spring break spirit. I thought spring break was supposed to have, you know, a spring vibe to it, but  that's not really the case when most of the country is going through a polar vortex.

A lot of really cool things happened throughout the week, midterms definitely not being one of them, so let's forget about tests and projects and get into the fun stuff, shall we?

It's an definitive fact that no one likes pot holes.
Artists Claudia Ficca and Davide Luciano decided to create beautiful works of art from those dirty divots in our roads.  You can click here to see some of their masterpieces. It  just goes to show that everything has beauty.

I can thank my friend Deborah for this next link. You may  or may not have heard of the band  5 Seconds of Summer.  The  pop punk group consists of  4 talented (and cute) Australian teens.  The boys formed in 2011 and have since gained popularity from touring with One Direction. Their newest music video has an awesome message and is also extremely catchy. Seriously, I knew all the words by the second time I watched this!

I can also thank my room mate Kara for this next link. (I guess everyone else does my work for me now!) It looks like the world has a new fashionista on their hands. Four year old Mayhem, as her mom conceals her identity as, started creating dresses out of construction paper as everyday clothing became to boring.  Although she gets help from mom, Mayhem knows exactly how much paper it takes to clothe herself and is always coming up with new ideas. I especially loved seeing Mayhem's versions of red carpet looks. You can keep updated on the  budding fashion muse's looks by clicking here.

So, I think we're all selfie obsessed. Whether you admit to it or not, we all tend to take numerous pictures of ourselves before we manipulate "the one" with filters. If you're not a teen, then this facade may not have any effect on you, but it's human nature for us to nitpick ourselves and see what our best angle is or wonder " Do I really look like that?". Refinery 29 made a great point this week in an article about ugly selfies and just how important they really are.  Its message is definitely something to think about next time you go to delete pictures of yourself.

Random Little Links
1. Drink your way to better health
2. A new app that allows you to donate water for free
3. Do you know your state's favorite band?
4.Healthy no bake cookie dough bites - yum!!

Whatever all you lovely people do this weekend I hope you have fun!
I don't think many schools have the same spring break as me, but if you are going somewhere interesting or tropical for break, know that I am extremely jealous.

Best,
Sarah

OOTD: Frozen Florals

Hello everyone!

The end of last week was unseasonably warm... and by warm I mean it was 37 degrees. The only logical thing to do? Throw on a dress and take a walk on our still frozen lake.

To commemorate the temporary spring weather, I thought  this floral dress was necessary. A baby doll dress is super versatile. Tights, sandals, boots, a jean jacket- you name it. You can't go wrong.

Dress: Urban Outfitters
Jacket: Charlotte Russe
Hair bow: American Apparel
Tights: H&M
Boots: Steve Madden "Troopa"

Isn't that view just stunning? I'm so grateful to be where I am.
Stop and look around at the little things. Nature is such a beautiful thing.

Best,
Sarah

Weekly Links: The Best of Tv

Hello everyone!
I can't believe the time is finally here; my spring break starts at the end of next week. My second semester is flying by. It's actually unsettling that my first year of college is almost over.  Alright, enough of the college talk.

This week has been an awesome one entertainment wise. For Weekly Links today I've corralled all of the viral videos that have happened over the past week that hopefully you will enjoy as much as I do.

* Click the hyperlinks below to be redirected to the original source*

What happens when you put Rebel Wilson and Ellen Degeneres together? Well, the internet becomes blessed with a video of the duo rapping about internet cats. Rebel and Ellen dubbed themselves Rebellen and their song will get stuck in your head.

This week Jimmy Fallon started his run as The Tonight Show host and he has yet to disappoint.  ( Wednesday night he had the highest ratings the show has seen in 10 years!) Everything Fallon produces is comedy gold and it was so hard for me to pick just one thing he did this week that was amazing.  ( Kristen Wiig as Harry Styles, Brian Williams lip dubbed- so many funny things!) I also think this Ragtime version of 'Ignition' is definitely a keeper.

The BRIT Awards were on Wednesday and One Direction won the global success award. They're the first group to have two number one albums in just one year since The Beatles.  Whether you love them or hate them, that's a huge accomplishment! ( For the record I will always be a directioner)  When the boys won, they had  quite a unique acceptance speech. Of course this sparked a bunch of memes, some of which you can see by clicking here and here.

This last link is a bit of a stretch since it's not on TV. However, this viral link that has gone all over the web envisions a beloved show without one of its main characters. Someone decided to recreate Full House, or as some people are dubbing it: Empty House, without little Michelle Tanner.  The result is a little eerie, but am I fascinated with the editing skills of its creator? You got it dude.

Random Little Links:
1. Katy Perry modeling during fashion week
2. She's just being Miley
3.Awesome vintage dresses
4.Secret Taco Bell items you need to know about

Sarah

Photography Fun

Hello everyone,
I hope you all had a great weekend.

I had the pleasure of photographing my friend Taylor for a design project I'm currently working on. I am by no means a photography aficionado, but I love taking pictures even if I don't necessarily get to do it as much as I'd like to. After sifting through our shoot, I found a few that I felt were almost too good not to share.
Enjoy!

Happy Presidents' Day; Have a lovely week!
Best,
Sarah

Weekly Links: I Heart the Internet

Hello everyone and Happy Valentine's day!

I don't know about you all, but my Valentine's day is going to be very romantic.
I'm going to Boston for the weekend with my friend Jill, so my night will consist of glorious 'Masshole' traffic, probably a headache and sweatpants will be worn shamelessly.
Ok, so obviously not romantic, but I am extremely happy that my three day weekend falls on Valentine's day so I can get 50% off candy and celebrate having no school simultaneously.

If you do happen to have a hot date tonight, I hope you have fun. If you're alone on this Hallmark holiday, no need to worry. Single people have more fun anyway!

"Ah, yes, I'd like a dumb frappuccino and make it a grande please."
Comedy Central host Nathan Fielder opened up a coffee shop called Dumb Starbucks last Friday. In just a short 7 days the cafe held flocks of people, garnered insane amounts of media coverage and was shut down for not having a health permit. How dumb. What amazes many is that this sudden mock of Starbucks came literally out of nowhere and is getting away with ripping off  the famous franchise's drinks, logo and even name. You can click here to watch Fiedler's explanation on why he can get away with ripping off the company. I found it pretty intriguing and while we can no longer visit the original location in Los Angeles, Fiedler is already planning to create another location in New York in the next few weeks.

The picture above is of a statue not a middle aged man.
Can you believe it? Artist Tony Mattell has an exhibit at Wellesley College and decided to place one of his pieces, Sleepwalker, in the middle of campus. Many students have voiced their concerns on the statue saying that it is inappropriate and should be removed. Mattell created the sculpture with the intention that viewers would feel empathetic towards the man. The piece personally creeps me out because it is so life like and I don't think it is the most appropriate thing to put in the middle of an all girls college. However, to each his own; art can be interpreted in any number of ways. What's your thought on this piece?

Since I'm talking about art, have you all heard about Shia LaBeouf lately? Last week he went to a movie premiere with a bag over his head that had the scrawling " I am not famous anymore", a phrase he repeatedly tweeted for weeks.  It has now been discovered that the stunt is for an art project that is currently going on in LA.  The Daily Beat reported on the art exhibit from beginning to end.  I found it to be a chilling read and I'm interested to see what becomes of this. LaBeouf has had a pretty tough year; It seems like every child actor now becomes "insane" or falls to addiction and I hope this isn't his case.  In the same night, I watched Even Stevens and it reminded me just how great LaBeouf used to be.

Meet Joe Sugg. Besides being extremely gorgeous and British, he  is also a You Tuber. I love watching his videos because each week he talks about something completely different. One thing Sugg does do often though is impressions and with good reason. Last week, I watched this video and it just had to be shared.

Random Little Links

This week's random little links are indeed random and trust me, Achy Breaky Heart 2 should have never, ever happened. You have been warned.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best College Pins on Pinterest

"Girls go to college to get more knowledge..."
* Correction: girls actually go to Pinterest. Am I right?

Pinterest is one of the most useful applications out there. There is always some kind of useful tidbit on the site every time you go on. It amazes me how creative, crafty and intelligent people are! I often think to myself, "I can't believe I never thought of that before!"

Over the summer, as I tried to prepare myself for the big milestone that is college, I didn't really have anyone to turn to on what to bring or what to expect and that was when Pinterest truly became a life saver. I learned so many random facts and tips on what to pack, how to decorate, how to adjust to a new place, how to stay active and healthy- the list goes on and on.

Now here I am, in my second semester of college.  While it may seem odd that I'm writing about college tips in the middle of February,  I strongly believe that all of the information I gathered  during the Summer turned out to be extremely important and useful in the beginning of the year and even more so now. I hope you all find something on this list you love whether you're in college! (or not- I won't tell)

For the girl that wants to be organized

For the girl that wants to be ahead

For the girl who wants to be fit

For the girl that wants to be a traveler

For the girl that wants to be crafty

For the girl that wants to save

Have a lovely week. I'll talk to you all again on Friday!
Best,
Sarah

Weekly Links: All things Mainstream

Happy Friday everyone!

We finally got a decent amount of snow  in Vermont to much relief of all the skiers and snow boarders. I'm sure many of them are equally as pumped for the Olympics. The Sochi winter Olympics started  last night on NBC which was very exciting even though I'm more of a Summer Olympic fan myself.

The Biggest Loser is one of NBC's most popular shows. For over 15 seasons, the show has overhauled hundreds of individuals who want to get their weight on track. It amazes me how much  weight contestants actually lose. Their equation of working out for hours on end, personal trainers and strict dieting ultimately creates entertaining and inspiring television. This week,  contestant Rachel Frederickson won and caused a controversy while doing so. Rachel is now 105 pounds at 5'5. Technically speaking, Rachel is now considered underweight. Cue the peanut gallery: 'She's too fat and now she's too thin' . You just can't please anyone anymore can you?

Sunday night caused quite a stir.  Unfortunately, it wasn't  from the overly anticipated Super Bowl ( Come one, it wasn't even a game!) Instead, the controversy was from a Coke a Cola commercial which you can view here. To summarize, the commercial played the song 'America the Beautiful' in different languages. Viewers were not happy about that and created a storm on social media. Many said that we live in America and therefore the commercial should have been in English. The hashtag #speakamerican appeared on Twitter and some individuals even claimed  that the soda brand was supporting terrorists. I personally don't see anything wrong with the commercial. Coke a Cola is a worldwide brand and displayed that very simply in this advertisement. What's your view on this? Shouldn't we be past the fact that so many diverse people live in our country and  even more so, shouldn't this fact should be embraced?

There has been quite a bit of snow all over the country this winter and where there is snow, there are bound to be a few snow days (Unless of course you're in Vermont where snow days are a myth). Every kid dreams of having snow days because they are indisputably the best. Instead of the average phone call, this Kentucky principal put his own spin on announcing that school was cancelled and I think it's safe to say that he is the coolest principal ever.

Finally!
This has probably been thought of or casually talked about many times. However,  high schooler Jewel Moore is trying to make a plus sized princess a reality. Disney has a certain formula when it comes to princesses and they know it works. You know, the slender and smooth waist line,  big doe eyes and not to mention, fabulous hair. Each princess may have a different story, but they undoubtedly have the same body. Moore started a petition online to sway Disney and you can join the movement here.

Prom is one of the biggest moments in High School.
A big part of your prom experience is taking the perfect pictures so you can remember the night perfectly. For all my girls out there, you just  want pictures before your hair falls, the heels get swapped for socks and your makeup melts.  I never really associated celebrities and prom, but Smosh made a gallery of celebrity prom pictures and I just couldn't get enough.  It's interesting to see how the whole prom experience has evolved and what celebrities chose as their outfit of choice before they had the money to hire people to do it for them. Brad Pitt of course still looked gorgeous.

Have a great weekend! Stay inside if you can because the snow is not stopping anytime soon.

Best,
Sarah

Made With Love

Hello lovelies,
Good morning and happy Monday!

Coming up next week is a day we all love to hate- Valentine's day.

Ah,  good old Valentine's day- the day crafted by the Hallmark gods.
Love should be shared 365 days; I shouldn't need a special day to tell the ones I love just how special they are to me...

It also is just a friendly reminder to the rest of us that this is our life:

If there is one beautiful thing that comes from Valentine's day though it's the fact that candy is at least 50% off the next day. Now that in itself  should be a holiday.

Regardless of my view of Valentine's day, I can't pass up a good DIY. (or those cheesy comic sans Tumblr valentines- don't lie you think they're hilarious too!)

To start off your week, I decided to compile a list of my favorite DIY's that you can easily make for that special someone.

* click the hyperlinks below to learn how to create these cute crafts*

14 Valentine's Ideas that are so easy it's almost a crime! Also, who doesn't love a good play on words? You're still acknowledging the fact it's Valentine's day, but not being all heartsy, glittery and lovey dovey about it. Plus, these all involve food. It's a win win.

Super yummy and easy! Again, everyone loves food. This literally takes no time at all . It's still a gift without spending a lot. Actually on second thought, you may just want to make these for yourself.

If you already have a special idea for someone, but don't know what to put it in  then these printables are perfect!

This valentine's idea takes some time to do. A girl in my dorm is actually doing this for her boyfriend and I think it's so sweet.  There's something authentically romantic about it. Who doesn't love knowing that others are there for them? Whether you're having a good day, are lonely, being silly or are sad these personal letters can be for any number of occasions at any time of the year.

A purrfect valentine idea for your fellow cat lover or even as a craft for a class or large group.

Another valentine alternative, doodle something special into a banana for your potassium lover. See this idea and many others by clicking here. I personally hate bananas, but this is actually awesome...and the pun. The pun makes it that more "appeeling".  I crack myself up.

I hope my list inspires you or even gives you some ideas for something even more spectacular. No matter what you choose, that special someone will love it. It's the thought that counts on Valentine's day, just as it does every other day of the year.

Best,
Sarah
